What is it? Why is it worth seeing?
Mount Tahtalı is the most prominent peak in the Turkish Mediterranean. It can be seen from almost anywhere on the coast. The height of the mountain is 2365 m. Mount Tahtalı is a part of the Western Taurus system, and it is located in a huge national park. Ancient pine and cedar trees grow on this territory. There are also many foxes, turtles, wild boars, and mountain goats. The goats can be found even at the very top, very close to the observation deck.
The name of the mountain comes from the Turkish words Tahtalı Dağları and translates as "Boardwalk Mountains". Why? Previously, Lebanese cedar grew in abundance on the slopes of the mountain, which was used for the construction of ships in almost all of medieval Europe. There is another version, according to which Tahtalı is associated with the word "taht" - "throne". It is usually mentioned here that the second name of the mountain is Olympos, that is, the place where the ancient Greek gods sat on the throne. However, it is worth noting that earlier any high mountains in the territory of Greek settlements were called Olympus. There were seven of them in Turkey.
The cable car was built in 2007. Now it is much easier to get to the top! In 12 minutes of travel, you will overcome the rise of 1639 m. The speed of the movement is 36 km / h. There are panoramic windows in the booths. Thanks to them, you can observe how the landscape is changing: the plants gradually disappear, and only bare rocks remain.
Who will like it?
Everyone who loves the breathtaking views can enjoy the entire coastline from Finike to Side at a glance. Of course, for those who look for romantics: sunrises and sunsets at the summit are simply unforgettable! You can touch the clouds with your hands!
How to get there?
It takes 45 km from the hotel to the foot of the mountain. The best way is to go by car. Then it is up to you to decide! You can ride the cable car, or you can go to the top on foot. The path is not too challenging and you will discover the most beautiful corners of the national park. One day is enough to get up and come back. And the red and white markings of the Lycian Way will not let you get lost! Do not forget to take some warm clothes - it gets chilly at the top.
