What is it? Why is it worth seeing?
Goynuk Canyon is located near the resort of the same name, which is 9 km from Kemer in southern Turkey. The resort is located on a plain famous for its pomegranate and orange orchards. The word "Göynük" is translated from Etruscan - "fruitful valley". Tens of centuries ago, nomads chose this productive area around Göynük for living. For many generations they lived here in isolation, growing fruit and fishing.
The plain is surrounded by the Beydağları Mountains, where the Göynük River originates. This river formed the canyon of the same name. For thousands of years, it has worked its way into monolithic rocks. The river is safe and not fast if there is no rain. However, in some places, its depth reaches 6 m. In summer, the river becomes shallow, turning into a large stream and a chain of small lakes.
Göynük Canyon is a gorge about 6 m wide (some places can be wider or narrower) and up to 350 m high. Its length is 14 km. Gorges of this size are rare for Asia Minor and Europe. The canyon walls are made of colorful rock. You can see shades of red, green, and white, black. Small streams flow down the walls of the gorge, and the sun's rays shimmer in them with all the colors of the rainbow.
Who will like it?
Everyone who loves outdoor activities will like it. Here you will be able to do cannoning: you will swim along a mountain river, climb over the rubble of stones. You can slide down along them, like from a slide in a water park. You can go over small fords and finally take a dip in the waterfall, the largest one in this canyon.
This place is for everyone who wants to spend the day in a very picturesque place. There is a lake right near the entrance. You can have a picnic on the shore and then take a walk around the surroundings. It is especially beautiful here on the days when orange and pomegranate trees are blooming.
How to get there?
The canyon is 70 km away from the hotel. It is most convenient to travel by car.
